Prayer and Liturgy

Prayer and Liturgy at St Michael & All Angels

At St Michael & All Angels, Prayer and Liturgy are central to our Catholic life and mission. We recognise that parents are the first educators of their children in faith and by working together as home, school and parish, we help our children develop a living relationship with God and grow as disciples of Jesus Christ.

Through daily prayer, Celebrations of the Word, Masses, liturgical celebrations and opportunities for reflection, children are encouraged to encounter Christ, deepen their understanding of Scripture and respond to God's call in their everyday lives. Prayer and Liturgy provide meaningful opportunities for our children to gather as a community, celebrate their faith and reflect on how Gospel values can guide their actions.

At St Michael & All Angels, we value the important partnership between parents, school and parish in supporting each child's faith journey. We warmly welcome parents into school to join us in prayer, Celebrations of the Word, Masses and liturgical events throughout the year. Sharing these experiences together helps children to see faith lived out within their community and strengthens their spiritual development as they grow in their relationship with God.

Through our Prayer and Liturgy programme, children are encouraged to:

  • Develop a personal relationship with God through prayer.
  • Grow in their knowledge and understanding of the Catholic faith.
  • Reflect on Scripture and its relevance to their lives.
  • Participate actively and respectfully in worship.
  • Celebrate the seasons and feasts of the Church's liturgical year.
  • Live out the values of love, compassion, forgiveness and service.

Together, as a community of faith, St Michael & All Angels strives to create an environment where every child can flourish spiritually, encounter God's love and become a positive witness to the Gospel in the world around them.

At St Michael & All Angels we praise and pray together through Prayer and Liturgy.

Gather - We create an atmosphere of prayer.

Listen - We listen to readings from scripture. We pause at times for quiet reflection and contemplation.

Respond - We quietly reflect, sing, say bidding prayers or engage with an action of response.

Go Forth - We remember what we will do to take the scripture message away with us and share it with others.

Prayer & Liturgy supports our Mission Statement and pupils value and regularly participate voluntarily in liturgy and in prayer.
